3: In 2008, a strange crop circle showed up in Britain, containing a coded image representing the first 10 digits of Pi.

4: the current Pi memorization champion is Hiroyoki Gotu, who, in 1995, memorized 42,195 digits of Pi.

3 cool things on treehugger

Hey hey! Today I read about a few awesome things on treehugger.com, and you’re bound to enjoy them! First up, this helmet with turn signals attached:

dora_03.jpg.492x0_q85_crop-smartThe helmet also has a headlight in the front and a taillight in the back, and is equipped with handlebar controls activated by Bluetooth. It seems strange that no one thought of this before. What do you think of it?

The next article is about a Capuchin monkey that trashed a woman’s home. As more people move into brazil, and more houses are built on Capuchin territory, the monkeys have started a protest. Recently, a woman was doing chores in her home whe she found a Capuchin monkey sleeping in her bed! The monkey was startled, and began to make a mess of the house. The woman eventually called the police. When the monkey was taken back to the police station, It managed to free itself from it’s cage and started exploring the office. Someone even managed to snap this shot:

monkey_smiling.jpg.492x0_q85_crop-smartThe monkey has been put in a zoo, as it is not aggressive, but may be too used to humans to be released into the wild. Crazy!

The last article is about a Valentine’s day gag involving 3D scanning and printing. Hot Pop Factory created a ‘3D kissing photobooth”, where you could check out 3D printers and how they work, get scanned for free, and choose if you want your 3D scan as a bobblehead, necklace, ring, or statuette. Pretty cool!

Well, that wraps everything up for today. Check out other posts, and comment to let me know how I’m doing!

3 interesting stories

Hey! Check out these three cool stories, guaranteed to make you quiver with knowledge!

First of all, a hidden London relic. In Westminster, if you ever go to the Ministry of Defense, you’ll be standing right above a Gothic crypt, hidden nuclear bunkers, and King Henry VIII’s wine cellar! The wine cellar was built in the early 1500’s by Cardinal Wolsey, to impress King Henry. But, the interior decor was too sophisticated. King Henry fired Wolsey,  and claimed his home as his own. After King Henry’s palace burnt down, the land was put up for lease. It wasn’t easy to put the cellar in the new building, so they encased it in concrete and buried it 20 feet down. It’s still there today!

021413_Ammo_WineCellar The next story is about the great emu war of 1932. After World War I, to help soldiers become civilians once again, they gave them farm land. This was all well and good until the great depression, when wheat prices went down. The government promised assistance in the form of subsidies, but it never came. Instead, 20,000 emus came and destroyed land. The farmers tried to get help from the Ministry of Agriculture, but got help from the Ministry of War, who sent two regiments of soldiers to dispose of the emus. But eventually, the emus scattered, ammo was wasted, and the plan to trap them failed. Eventually, the emus won. Weird!

My last story is about Charles Darwin and his worm experiments. Before his theory of evolution, Darwin conducted experiments on worms. He had his wife and children play music for the worms, and he confirmed that they cannot hear. In later years, he conducted an experiment where a large, flat stone was laid in his yard, and he recorded the depth that it sank over a few decades. He was able to prove the value of worms as natural agents of soil turnover and also determined why ancient ruins are buried below the ground. He even published a book about worms which, during his lifetime, outsold The Origin Of The Species.
