Women’s History fun facts: March 5th, 2015
It’s time for another round of Fact-A-Day – since March is Women’s History Month, that’ll be this month’s theme!
1: In 1903, Mary Anderson invented windshield wipers.
2: The first non-fictitious woman to appear on United States coinage was Susan B. Anthony.
3: Ruth Graves Wakefield invented the first chocolate-chip cookie – the Toll House Cookie. In fact, you can still see her original recipe today, as it is printed on the back of all NestlĂ© chocolate bars.
4: In 1849, Elizabeth Blackwell became the first woman in the United States to receive a medical degree. She received it from the Medical Institution of Geneva, New York.
5: In 1924, golfer Edith Cummings became the first female athlete to be featured on the cover of Time magazine.
