Skiing lessons

Greetings, loyal followers! Today I’d like to tell you about my skiing lessons at mount Attitash. I had gone up to stay with my cousins at their cabin in Bartlett, New Hampshire. So here’s what happened!

When I first got there, I got my metal ski boots on, and found out my ski size. I sat at a table with other people in my group. I was also asked what I wanted for lunch (fish sticks, peanut butter & jelly, or ham sandwich), since I was staying the whole day. I chose fish sticks. When our teacher finally came, we headed outside to find our skis. We learned how to put them on and how to walk in them. Then it was time to try out the Snowbelt, the first trail!

The Snowbelt was so small that it didn’t even need a chairlift. Instead, there was a conveyor belt called a magic carpet that took you up. I fell down the first few times getting on! At the top, we learned how to accelerate and how to stop. Our goal was to go down the slope and stop when commanded, but a few times I went down too early, and couldn’t stop! Eventually I got the hang of stopping, and we moved on to other skills. We then learned how to snowplow, which is slowing down and turning. We had to follow the instructor down the slope, making big, wide turns. I was having so much fun that I didn’t even want to stop when it was time for lunch!

Before lunch, we learned how to take off our skis. I had a delicious lunch of fish sticks and tater tots, with a refreshing glass of water. I was told that the best part of ski lessons was the lunch! Then we went back outside and tried out a new challenge-turning around a set of cones! We practiced that a little bit, but soon, our teacher thought that we might be ready to try another slope! She brought out a man to watch us turn around the cones. He declared us ready to try the next slope-The Learning Center!

The Learning Center was bigger than the Snowbelt, so it needed a chairlift. I was excited about going down, but when I got off the chairlift, I fell down and fell into a ditch on the side of the trail! I immediately panicked as I started to slide down. I couldn’t get up out of the ditch, so I had to take off my skis and come back onto the trail to put them on again. A group behind me applauded me! Then I skied down a not-too-steep part of the trail and was having fun until the next part when I fell down, and looked at how STEEP the next part was. I couldn’t get up, and was slowly slipping towards the steep hill. I got up, but I was terrified of going too fast down the hill. I purposely fell down so that I could fall, slide down a little, get up, fall, slide down a little get up fall…you get it. I was in tears by the time I reached the bottom.

The next day, I didn’t need lessons again. I wanted to try the Snowbelt again, but not The Learning Center. I was having so much fun on the Snowbelt that I almost had to get pulled away for lunch, and at the end of the day! So I learned the basics of skiing and had fun-despite being petrified on The Learning Center!

Sorry, no photos :(

I hoped you enjoyed this post. Check out my other posts, and feel free to post a comment!
