3 things I learned August 10

Here’s what I learned today on my field trip to the schooner Ernestina! On a ship, the more sails the ship has, the faster it will go. When you first join the crew, you have to sleep in the front of the boat – the bow – which is very cramped, but the back of the boat – the stern – is wide open. As you learn more skills on your trip, you get to sleep farther and farther back in the ship, thus allowing more room for sleeping! And for the last fact of the week, if you were on a ship, you would know that the living quarters below the deck is called the forecastle! Next week is the last week (unfortunately :( ) for fun facts. Until then, have a great weekend!

As you probably know, today was swimming day, but I skipped swimming so that I could finish my art project, which was a koi fish with self-made scales. I really wasn’t that disappointed that I couldn’t go. I was excited to do it, and in the end it turned out great!

Here are some more facts for you that I learned today! Another name for a clam is a steamer. Also, did you ever wonder where the word scuba came from? It’s a very odd word, but it actually stands for Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus! And for my last fact, all cameras used for scuba diving have to be completely pressure-proof! I have swimming tomorrow, but I’ll have some mor facts loaded up for you on Friday! See you then!

Boy, do I have some cool facts for you today! You probably already know that there are different colors of lobsters, like red and blue, but did you know that they are colored differently according to where they live? I know I didn’t! My teacher told us that he once caught a lobster that was half black and half yellow. And lastly, there was a woman who found 46 sand dollars in one day, but a few years later, she couldn’t even find one! I’ll have some more interesting facts tomorrow!

Here is what I learned for today! The density of fresh water is always 1 – no more, no less. A conch shell is a member of the whelk family. And also, there are some creatures that live at the bottom of the sea that don’t have eyes, ears, or legs! More facts tomorrow!

Hello! Here is what I learned for today’s field trip. There is dolphin named Winter that lost its tail, and when it has it’s tail attached, it swims like a regular dolphin, but with it’s Taipei detached, it swims like a shark! Leatherback turtles are also the largest turtles in the world. And also, the common dolphin is colored in such a way that no matter how you look at, it’s camouflaged with the water! Enjoy the weekend!
