3 things I learned July 18

Here’s what I learned in the middle of my second week at Sealab! First off, a hurricane is divided into five categories based on the speed of the wind. Secondly, hermit crabs are named after hermits because they both live a solitary life. Finally, third, it is always snowing somewhere in the world! Just four and a half more weeks of fun facts to go!

3 things I learned July 17

Hey everyone! Here’s what I learned today. First off, it costs 70 dollars to buy a single geoduck clam. Second, the continental crust of the Earth is made out of granite. Lastly, people used to use only female names to name hurricanes! See you tomorrow!

3 things I learned July 16

For my second week of Sealab, here’s what I learned! First of all, an iceberg is tiny compared to a glacier, because an iceberg is a tiny piece that broke off from a glacier. Next, there are lots of bald eagles in Alaska. And third, an easy way to remember salmon species is to assign each species to a finger, like pink salmon to your pinky! see you tomorrow!

3 things I learned July 13

Here’s what I learned at the end of my first week at Sealab! First, there is a nocturnal snail called a moon snail. Secondly, Richard E. Byrd stayed by himself in Antarctica for four months! Lastly, the layer of Earth beneath the crust is the mantle. It’s only 2-3 miles under the ocean, but 25 miles below land! I can’t wait for next week!

Hello! For our fourth day, we swam at the beach instead of having class. We all had a great time!

3 things I learned July 11

For my third day of Sealab, here is what I learned! First of all, in 2004, there was a tsunami that swept all the way across the world! Secondly, the pacific plate is the largest tectonic plate on Earth. And lastly, one of the plumes of smoke from Mount Saint Helens during it’s eruption was 12-15 miles tall! What facts will tomorrow bring?
