Today & yesterday in history
Good morning! Today’s post is about important events in history on today and yesterday. Let’s start with yesterday!
Yesterday, in 1862, Abraham Lincoln abolished slavery in the US. In 1910, in Spokane, WA, the very first fathers day was celebrated. In 1972, Hurricane Agnes struck the Florida Panhandle. In 1999, Stephen King was seriously injured when he was hit by a van in North Lovell, Maine. Also in 1999, the spaceship Endeavor returned to Earth with three crewmen. Here’s what happened today!
Today, in 1782, congress approved the Great Seal of the US, which had the Bald Eagle on it. In 1837, Queen Victoria took the throne after the death of King William IV. In 1863, West Virginia became the 35th state. In 1893, a jury in New Bedford, MA, found that Lizzie Borden was not guilty of the murder of her father and stepmother. And in 1963, the US and the Soviet Union agreed to put a hotline between the two. And that’s what happened today and yesterday in history!
